What is 2FA and how does it work?
2FA provides a solution to the problem of unauthorised access by validating who is attempting to access the network. The process itself is simple. Each user of the service is provided with a token which delivers a One Time Password (OTP), which when combined with the unique PIN they have, identifies them to the providers' service, which then authorises their connection to the network.
The tokens come in 3 formats:
- Hardware tokens are physical devices that with a push of a button generate an OTP.
Software tokens reside on a user's computer (laptop or hand-held). Laptop based tokens are ideal for anyone who needs access from just one computer; whilst 'portable' software tokens are available for mobile equipment e.g. BlackBerrys.- Mobile tokens provide a token code via an SMS message received by your mobile phone. The mobile token works on all ordinary mobile phones.
